Description
The PUW caliber 1561 was a very familiar german selfwinding movement
of a good quality. It was launched in 1971 and superseded by the caliber 1661
in 1975.

|
Typical for the PUW 1561 is its very healthy rotor winding sound, for which
the click spring at "9" is responsible. With its help and with the tiny gear
at "6:30" the rotor winds in both directions. The decoupling works with
another tiny and freely working gear at "6".

|
The whole selfwinding mechanism is very sophisticated and complex, but marks
the climax of german watchmaking at the early 1970ies.

A tiny detail: The escapement wheel is beared with a very unusual type of
cap jewel, since it is not a round one but almost shaped as a block. I'm not
sure, what advantages besides probably slightly lower costs this has got.

The rest of the movement is the same, as on the caliber
Kaliber 561, inculding the very complex
constructed date correction mechanism. It works by turning the time back and
forth, but advances only when the crown is pressed afterwards.
