Description
The Junghans caliber J 93/1 was often used in the fifties. It was available in different versions,
with and without date, with different number of jewels and with and without center second.
The large Glucydur balance is beared in an inhouse proction sytem with its typical
large cap jewels. By using a large adjusting arm, the effective length of the hairspring can
be regulated precisely, thus achieving the best possible performance.
Another typical feature of this movement is its quarter plate, which holds the anchor wheel with
its long axle, the directly driven center second wheel and the third wheel. This construction is
very service friendly. The specimen shown here uses seventeen jewels. To achieve this, the
mainspring barrel runs in a jewel on the deck side. There's no technical neccessity for this,
but it was required for marketing the "must" of "17 Jewels".
Another advantage of this movement was, that it could be put into the case, using the Trilastic
shock absorbing system. For this system, there are three holes on the side, which can carry
the elastic ends of this system.

On the dial side, a rocking bar winding mechanism is used, as on many other Junghans movements, too. This
winding mechanism is simpler and cheaper than a yoke mechanism, but might suffer on an outworn
winding wheel.
Nevertheless, the winding mechanism on this movement is pretty well made, especially the
spring-loaded click is a detail, which belongs to a "better" watch.
